Frequently Asked Questions
  1. Why can't I print? Why am I denied access to print?
Mostly likely the problem is that you do not have sufficient money on your KU Card. If there is no money in your print account before you try to print material, your access will be denied. Follow these steps to add money to your KU Card.

Steps to add money to your KU Card
    • Go to the KYou Portal (http://students.ku.edu, http://faculty.ku.edu, or http://staff.ku.edu)
    • Login using your KU Online ID (email login/password)
    • Click the Finances tab
    • Click Recharge Card
    • A new window or tab should open. On the left, click Recharge KU Card
    • Click the 'Add Funds' button
    • Enter the payment amount
    • Choose a payment method
    • Fill in the appropriate information to transfer funds to the KU Card account
    • Confirm or edit the transaction
    • Print a transaction receipt if you wish
    • Remember to log out of any secure websites
In order to receive $8 of free printing at the start of each semester, you must also meet these criteria:
    • Students must have a KU Card
    • Student must be currently enrolled in classes
    • Student must have a registered KU email address
    • Has the student recently enrolled? System updates overnight.
    • Has the student recently received their KU Card? System updates overnight.
    • Is the student logged in to the computer with their own Online ID? Sometimes a student may sit down at a machine which has already been authenticated.
  2. What if the print is bad (wrinkled, low toner, bad quality)?
If the print comes out and there is a problem, contact a staff member at the desk (or if you are in an unsupervised lab, please call 4-0218), and they will be able to assist you.
  3. Can I still bring my own paper for printing from a PC?
No, you will not have the option to bring your own paper. All of the printers will be loaded with paper, so you will no longer need to supply your own paper. There are some requests, such as printing resumes on special paper, that we will allow, with the assistance of lab staff. Lab staff are not responsible for any problems with the special paper.
  4. What computer labs will this affect?
The CS Print system is currently installed at the following locations:
    • Budig Hall Lab,
    • Harris Lab (Kansas Union),
    • Fraser Lab (Room 4 in the basement),
    • Anschutz Library
    • Watson Library.
    • Gorton Music Library
    • Spahr Engineering Library
    • Art & Architecture Library
    • Law Library
    • Business School Lab
    • Economics Lab
    • Gale Sayers Lab
    • Robinson Gym Lab
    • Edwards Campus (Overland Park)

  5. If I know there is money on my KU Card (or I know I still have free printing funds available), why does it say 'Transaction Denied' when I print?
The most common problem with 'Transaction Denied,' is insufficient funds on the KU Card. Please make sure that your KU Card has enough money to cover the entire amount of the print. However, if you have enough money on the KU Card, and there is still a 'Transaction Denied' when trying to print, you can view your KU Card and Free Printing balances through the KYou Portal. Once you authenticate into the Portal, select the Finances Tab, which will show balances. To see recent transactions, including printing, click 'View card history.'
